Off to a Bumpy Start

Well after a full day of debugging why ScottHalliday.ca url would not display this website, I finally managed to figure it out. Since this site is powered using the WordPress blogging software, I come to discover that the site’s url was being redirected by WordPress using a url address specified within one of the options in the WordPress admin panel.

Apparently when I installed WordPress, it saved the current url address that was being used at the time of installation. Since this was before the ScottHalliday.ca domain name had resolved, I was using “204.73.200.75/~xxxx” to access the hosting account and this was what WordPress decided to save as the website address. Good grief. After hours of checking and rechecking server and hosting account settings and then hunting through site files, I come to discover this simple fact. At least now I will know better the next time around. Talk about learning things the hard way. Sometimes it can be the most simplest of things that take the longest, as was the case here.

With a simple Wordpress admin setting change, the site is now accessible by its domain name. Three cheers and now its back to work..
